Two Limetree Bay contractors are dead after their vehicle first struck another sport utility vehicle and then careened into a tank early Saturday in Sion Valley on St. Croix.

At about 1 a.m., the surviving driver said he stopped at a Rattan Road intersection when he saw a green Jeep Wrangler approaching at a high rate of speed.

The driver told police that he felt the Wrangler hit his Isuzu Rodeo and then he saw the Jeep strike a rusty tank, causing it to fall, according to a press release.

Both the Wrangler’s driver, Roy Marcus George, 29, and passenger, Thomas Quinton Lavell, 35, were killed.

George and Lavell, who were both from Texas, were working at Limetree Bay as contractors, police said.

The driver of the Isuzu Rodeo sustained minimal injuries.

The collision is under investigation by the department’s Traffic Division.
