Children’s book, film fest: The third annual Children’s Book and Film Fest will take place on Fridays, through Aug. 18, at Buddhoe Park in Frederiksted, St. Croix. Hot air balloon event: A hot air balloon will feature at the “Hot, Hot, Hot Summer Fun Event” hosted by Quality Family Entertainment from 4 to 10 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at Lionel Roberts Stadium on St. Thomas. The family-friendly event will include costume characters, bounce houses, games, food and drinks and a hot air balloon. Cancer Support: Cancer Support V.I., sponsored by International Capital & Management Company, announces the next free presentation by Dr. Kathryn Anderson, a naturopathic physician, from Cancer Treatment Centers of America in Tulsa, Okla., who will discuss how to prepare essential oils for healing on Aug. 12 at noon in the second-floor auditorium at the Kimelman Cancer Institute on St. Thomas. The mission of Cancer Support V.I. is to provide support, education, information and assistance to people living with cancer and their families and friends.

NatureTech award: The Community Foundation of the Virgin Islands is accepting applications for the 2017 NatureTech.Solutions Award for technical innovation. Supported by the Potter Fund for NatureTech Solutions at CFVI, this $3,000 prize will be awarded to projects that have been built to increase the effectiveness of natural or cultural resource management in small islands in the Eastern Caribbean.
