UVI STEM students awards

Three University of the Virgin Islands undergraduate students took first place awards at the Annual Emerging Researchers National Conference in STEM in Washington D.C. Nineteen UVI students were among the over 800 students that attended the conference from colleges and universities across the country. The three students, from UVI’s College of Science and Mathematics, were Torhera Durand, Genique Nicholas and Quianah Joyce.

UVI tele-fundraising drive

The University of the Virgin Islands Alumni Affairs Call Center announces its third annual multi-lingual, campus-based fundraising calling program. Alumni and friends will be asked to show their support to the University’s tele-fundraising drive to support academic scholarships for students in need. The Center began its philanthropic efforts on Monday and will run through Friday, July 31.

The center will then resume the drive on Sept. 1, and it will run through Sept. 30.

Carnival volunteers needed

The Virgin Islands Carnival Committee is seeking persons interested in becoming volunteer Parade Marshals for the 2018 Carnival parades, as well as convertible drivers for both parades.

The Committee also invites anyone interested in applying to be a parade judge to pick up an application at the VI Carnival Office at the Fort Christian parking lot. Forms must be completed by March 21.

Casting call

Pistarckle Theater in Tillett Garden on St. Thomas will hold casting auditions for the theatre’s May comedy on Sunday, March 18, and Monday, March 19, both at 6 p.m. “Going to Come Back,” written by St. Thomas playwright and resident Susan Hunter, is a sequel to last year’s “Catch and Keep.” Several male and female roles are available. Mini carnival

Participants are needed to bring the Carnival celebration to island seniors with the 5th annual Mini Carnival Parade. The event will be held at both the Queen Louise Home for the Aged and the Lucinda Millin Home on April 7. Those interested should email lindiwe73@gmail.com.
