A shooting Tuesday night in Mon Bijou on St. Croix left one man dead, according to V.I. Police.

The incident occurred at around 10:30 p.m. when 911 received a report of shots being fired in the area, and found a young black man who had multiple gunshot wounds, V.I. Police spokesman Toby Derima said in a statement.

Emergency Medical Technicians confirmed the victim was dead at the scene, Derima said. Police are withholding the victim’s name, pending notification of his next of kin.

The death marks the territory’s 19th homicide so far this year, including 10 on St. Thomas, eight on St. Croix, and one on St. John.

The case is currently under investigation.
